This collection consists of Lincoln-related material collected by Earl C. Kubicek of Chicago, Illinois.
Earl C. Kubicek (1910-1987) was the director of alumni relations and placement at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. He collected Lincoln-related material and wrote a number of articles on Lincoln topics, including two series for the Chicago Sunday Tribune Magazine.
This collection contains articles and ephemera on specific topics relating to the life of Abraham Lincoln collected by Earl C. Kubicek. Materials were originally separated into groups by topic and cataloged together. Topics include the Lincoln family in England, John Wilkes Booth, Our American Cousin, the Lincoln Home National Historic Site (Springfield, Illinois), and Lincolniana. This collection also includes correspondence sent to or from Earl C. Kubicek regarding Lincoln articles and printed material, as well as articles written by Kubicek for the Chicago Sunday Tribune Magazine.
The Lincoln Room, a predecessor of the Illinois History and Lincoln Collections, purchased much of this collection in 1992. In 2011, materials from this collection were removed to form MS 878: Dorothy Lamon Teillard Collection, 1946-1953. Fourteen items from the Lincoln Historical Fund Campaign were moved to MS 1014: Oliver R. Barrett Papers, 1933-1952, and seven Booth-related items were moved to form MS 892: Prince of Players [Edwin Booth] Collection, 1955.
