Scope and Contents:
This collection contains 71 photographs taken by Kaufman & Fabry, the official photographers for Chicago's Century of Progress International Exposition. A majority of the photographs are professionally mounted and feature notes dating them between 1931 and 1933. Many of the photographs are exterior shots of the main exhibition buildings, but there are a few interior photographs as well. In addition, several of the photographs show evidence of recent construction. The same or similar photographs were widely published. See, for example, the bound collection presented to A. C. Allyn (Q.606.1 C43Th).
Albert H. Nemoede, a 1941 graduate of the U. of I. School of Architecture, collected these photographs. After his death they came to the Art and Architecture Library, which gave them to the Illinois Historical Survey in 1993.
