Phebe Jane Morrison Hutchison was born in Cherry Fork, Ohio, but moved to Oak Grove, McLean County, Ill., in 1856. In this memoir, written in 1930, she recalls her early life, household and farming experiences, school and church events, and family and community gatherings. Her childhood reactions to the Civil War, specifically Lincoln's death and Union victories, are included.
