This collections consists of photocopies of papers from the Emerson, Brinkerhoff, and Jacobus families relating to school work at the La Grange Collegiate Institute, Ontario, Ind. Included are letters of the students, religious exercises, songs, lists of goods purchased by the students, and the first annual catalogue of the Wolcottville Young Ladies Seminary (1852-53). The papers illustrate the type of "moral-academic" work expected of the students and their attitudes toward education. The three families were related by marriage.
Dr. Jack Nortrup, Tri-State College, Angola, Ind., donated this collection of photocopies to the Library in 1967 or earlier.
