Scope and Contents:
Laurence Marcellus Larson (1868-1938) served on the History faculty of the University of Illinois from 1907 to 1938. This collection includes the typescript of an incomplete memoir of 22 pages, including insightful recollections of his faculty colleagues when he came to Illinois; an inventory of Larson's personal papers made by Charles Paape in 1943; and transcripts of letters to Larson by Frederick Merk in 1917 and 1936. In addition, the collection contains Larson's class notes, taken in Frederick Jackson Turner's course on the History of the West, at the University of Wisconsin in 1901-2.
