Arthur Bryant, writing to his brother John Howard Bryant from Jacksonville, Illinois, on December 30, 1830, describes the agricultural conditions in Southern and Central Illinois. Having just arrived in the region to farm, he elaborates upon the types of soil, crops, weather conditions, and prices for agricultural goods.
