This collection contains personal papers and a journal belonging to Reverend Benjamin Applebee, a Methodist Episcopal minister in central Illinois.
Benjamin Applebee was born in Tranesville, Ohio in 1820 and grew up near Canton, Illinois. He served as a minister in central Illinois for over thirty years. He died in 1897.
The collection includes a journal, correspondence, some sermon notes, and a ticket to an event for Christian men. Applebee wrote in the journal from 1857 to 1877. In his journal entries, Applebee discusses his early life and ministry. The correspondence consists of four letters written to and from Applebee between 1862 and 1895.
This collection was transferred to the Illinois Historical Survey from the Rare Book Room of the University of Illinois Library in 1973.
