Scope and Contents:
This collection contains a memory album given to Henrietta M. Judson from her aunt, Laura P. Shipman. The album contains entries from friends with poetry and well-wishes, most of which were residents of Hillsboro, Illinois.
Henrietta M. Brown (née Judson) was born in 1884 in Newark, New Jersey. She lived in Hillsboro, Montgomery County, Illinois, by 1850s. She married George William Brown of Butler, Illinois, also in Montgomery County.
This collection contains a bound, red leather memory book for Henrietta M. Judson, from 1853-1862. A design of a woman in a dress scattering flowers on the ground is stamped in gold foil onto the front and back covers, and there are a few colored pictures of flowers and birds throughout the book. The inscription on the first page of the book reads, "Henrietta M. Judson, From her aunt, Laura P. Shipman." There are several entries from friends, containing lines of poetry, drawings, or short messages of gratitude. Many of the entries were signed from Hillsboro, Illinois, and a few were signed in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Library purchased this collection in 2022 with the support of the Bruce C. Creamer Fund.
