Scope and Contents:
This collection consists of student papers written for history courses offered at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The collection is comprised of more than 475 course papers written by University of Illinois students between 1962 and 1984. The papers mainly discuss topics related to Illinois history and immigration. Many of the papers on immigration are oral histories from family members who came to the United States from other countries. Illinois and United States history papers cover a variety of topics from the colonial period to the present including county and community histories, French exploration, railroads, political issues, and mining.
The papers were written for courses taught by professors including Natalia M. Belting, Robert M. Sutton, Louise Dunbar, and Walter Allen. They were originally deposited in the vertical file for the Illinois Historical Survey at the conclusion of each course. The papers were separated and organized into their own collection in 2004.
