This collection consists of one letter from Sarah to "Cousin Sarah" written from Dracut, Massachusetts, on July 11, 1865, which includes comments on Lincoln and his assassination.
This collection contains one letter from a Sarah, of Dracut, Massachusetts, to a "Cousin Sarah" written July 11, 1865. In the letter, Sarah described personal and family news. She briefly mentioned the Lincoln assassination, and asked if Warren thought the Copperheads played a role in it. She also wrote that free speech was not allowed in Massachusetts, adding "it did not make much difference what was said while he was living but dead his name was sacred." The portion about Lincoln is outlined in red, added later.
The Library purchased this letter in 2020 with support from the Dr. Harlan Horner Estate.
