Scope and Contents:
This collection includes a dozen pencil sketches by Mrs. H. S. Currie of historic buildings in Kaskaskia, Ill. Mrs. Currie "spent twenty years of [her] life in Kaskaskia," but was living in Pueblo, Colorado, by the early 1900s.
Mrs. Currie accompanied each sketch with information on the histories and residents of the buildings. Included in the collection are drawings of the residences of Shadrach Bond, William Morrison, and Nathaniel Pope. Mrs. Currie described the items as "sketches of the homes and places as they appeared forty years ago." The collection contains one original drawing (of the residence of William Morrison) and negative photostats of eleven other originals held by the Illinois States Historical Library (now the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library).
Mrs. H. S. Currie of Pueblo, Colorado, sent a sample of her sketches to Charles Alvord (Director of the Illinois Historical Survey from 1911-1920), in the early 1900s.
