Much of the ephemera comes from museums, clubs, or societies focused on celebrating and preserving the history of the railroads in Illinois, Wisconsin, or Pennsylvania, although timetables and other materials created by the railroad companies themselves are also included. The collection also contains images of trains in oversized color prints and a set of illustrated placements. The materials were collected by Richard Skagenberg, and a small number of publications and clippings related to tractors and agriculture supplement the materials on trains and railroads in his collection.
