Scope and Contents: Charles G. Thomas of Galena, Ill., wrote this letter to his son, C. L. Thomas, at school in New Haven, Conn. He refers to others in the family as well as to several acquaintances. His reference to Galena's "burnt district" suggests that he might have written this letter in 1849.
