Scope and Contents:
This collection consists of a microfilm copy of records of the annual meetings of the Old Settlers' Society of Logan County from 1873 to 1911.
The Old Settlers' Society was an organization of community members who had settled in Illinois prior to 1840 and their descendants. The Society's annual meeting was usually held during the fall in the Lincoln or Mount Pulaski area, with members meeting for both business and socializing.
The collection contains microfilm of recreated manuscripts, written to take the place of lost originals using information from local newspapers. These manuscripts include information on meeting events, election results, the Society'sconstitution, lists of members, and death notices. The microfilm also features several clippings about the Society from an unidentified newspaper, dated from 1903 to 1906. There is also an index which gives the page numbers for notes on certain meetings.
The microfilm was transferred from the University of Illinois Newspapers Library to the Illinois Historical Survey, predecessor of the Illinois History and Lincoln Collections, in 1977.
