This collection consists of compiled scrapbooks and albums of clippings regarding a wide variety of items and topics on Abraham Lincoln.
This collection assembles several independently compiled scrapbooks pertaining to Abraham Lincoln that were previously cataloged or donated to the unit. This collection contains the following scrapbooks:
"Paper Cuttings about Lincoln, Grant, etc.," unknown compiler: One bound volume formerly cataloged 973.7 P197. This scrapbook contains newspaper clippings likely from St. Louis newspapers from the 1870s-1890s. Topics include War of the Rebellion records, war anecdotes, Elijah Lovejoy, Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Andrew Jackson, Stonewall Jackson, and W.T. Sherman.
"Clippings," compiled by Colby Beekman, an 1896 alum of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from Tallula, Illinois, and preserved by Dorothy Golden of Petersburg, Illinois: This scrapbook contains newspaper clippings from various unidentified newspapers, circa 1904-1929. Topics include Lincoln and Lincoln relatives, Lincoln's assassination and funeral, Lincoln's cabinet, views on Lincoln, poems and tidbits, and articles about people with a Lincoln relation.
"Clippings," compiled by Lee Stickler: This folder contains newspaper clippings primarily from the Illinois State Journal (now the State Journal-Register in Springfield, Illinois) from 1961-1965. Topics primarily include Lincoln's connection to Springfield and Springfield events pertaining to Lincoln.
“Lincoln, Abraham,” unknown compiler: This folder contains clipped images of Abraham Lincoln, clippings from “Lincoln Lived Here” by Fern Pond Nance, and a clipped image of a young girl in front of the Lincoln Memorial. The Illinois History and Lincoln Collections holds more of Fern Pond Nance’s work on Lincoln and New Salem, Illinois in MS 1096 – Pond, Fern Nance. Lecture, 1944.
The materials within this collection were donated on various dates from different sources. The Lee Stickler clippings, along with a Lincoln life mask, were donated to the University by Clark Mills in 2000. The University of Illinois Foundation deposited the mask in the Spurlock Museum (2000.03.0001) and transferred the clippings to the Library. The Colby Beekman album was donated to Library in 2001 by Vincent Golden. The provenance of the "Paper Cuttings about Lincoln, Grant, etc." scrapbook is unknown. “Lincoln, Abraham” was found in a vertical file in the Ricker Library at the University of Illinois and was sent to the Illinois History and Lincoln Collections in 2009
