Caption: "Funeral services will be held 12/18 in New York City for Oscar Lewis, 55, professor of anthropology at University of Illinois and author of "The Children of Sanchez" and of "La Vida." Lewis died 12/16 in Poly Clinic, New York, which he entered earlier 12/16 for treatment of heart condition. Lewis, who pioneered the study of culture of poverty as a branch of the science of anthropology, last year received a Ford Foundation grant of $160,000 for a 3-year study of low-income families in Cuba."
