Description:
Caption accompanying image reads: "Teaching -- Not from books alone do Illini students learn. This group of art students is in the Hall of Casts, surrounded by great works of the ages. To the right is the "Laocoon" which inspired Lorado Taft, when a student at the university, to become the great sculptor whom all the world knows. In the middle is the original plaster of Taft's "Solitude of the Soul" group. The marble in the Chicago Art Institute was made from this plaster. At the left is Taft's "Blind" group, never carried beyond the sculptor's original plaster."
