Commission on Research and Service File contains Commission correspondence and lists, proposals, and reports concerning its responsibility for carrying forward studies in the field educational and institutional research and service pertaining to universities, colleges, and secondary schools, including funded research projects; and committee files, including Committee on Current Educational Problems (1954), Committee on Institutional Technology (1969-1971), and Committee on Liberal Arts Education (1971-1973).

Under the Constitution of 1942 the Commission on Unit Courses and Curriculum of Secondary High Schools and Institutions of Higher Education was renamed the Commission on Research and Service. This Commission on Unit Courses and Curriculum was created, along with two other Commissions, when the Commission on Accredited Schools and Colleges was replaced by these three in 1916. The duties of the Commission were, in 1916, to define unit courses of study in the various subjects of the curriculum, and to consider questions relating to the organization of classes within the schools. In 1942, the Commission was charged more specifically with the responsibility for initiating, planning, and carrying forward studies in the field of educational and institutional research and service pertaining to universities, colleges, and secondary schools, both when conceived by itself and when requested by either of the other two commissions.[1]
