Description: Research Projects File of the Small Homes Council-Building Research Council includes project proposals and reports; contracts; correspondence and memoranda; budgets; work diaries; blueprints; detailed drawings; worksheets; checklists; invoices, vouchers, payroll ledgers and other financial records; publicity releases; radio and film scripts; working files; and photographs concerning research projects undertaken by the Small Homes Council to study electric and coal heating, roofing materials and installation, mobile home construction, work efficiency, interior space designs; to build demonstration houses, including a farmhouse, and faculty residences; and to investigate and recommend improved techniques for housing construction in Bogota Columbia (1954-57).
The research projects were sponsored by corporations, foundations, and trade groups (including Edison Electric, INT, Inc., Farm Journal, Inc., the Lumber Dealers Research Council, Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation, and Bituminous Coal Research, Inc.), government agencies (including the Housing and Home Finance Agency, Federal Housing Administration, the Foreign Operations/International Cooperation Administration, the Office of Civil Defense, the U. S. Army, and the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development) and the University.
