Scope and Contents of the Materials

Enrollment Statistics include Final Enrollment Statistics reports (1972-1996), Equal Opportunity Program and minority reports (Fall 1972-Summer 1996), Advanced Enrollment Statistics(1971-1994), other statistical data and analyses, and related administrative correspondence between OAR, other departments, outside organizations, and government institutions (1957-1989). Final Enrollment Statistics include statistics for undergraduates, graduate, and professionals by college, curriculum, class level, gender, resident and attendance status, course credit, and class; marital status; year of birth; geographical distribution by state and country; senior and junior college reports; and distribution of students by self-reported racial/ethnic classifications. Other statistical reports cover admissions, preliminary enrollment, and enrollment analyses, projections, graphs, and year-to-year comparisons. Final Enrollment statistics also provide data for number of high school valedictorians and salutatorians in freshman class.

Biographical Note

In 1893, the duties associated with admissions, registration, and student records were transferred from the Regent to the newly formed Office of the Registrar.1 By 1916, according to the Annual Budget, the office consisted of four administrative divisions: Admissions, Records, Statistics and General Assistants. The Statistics Division merged with the Records Division in 1941, forming the Division of Records and Statistics.2 The Division of Records maintains student transcripts and tuition payment records, assesses fees and tuition, and issues certificates of attendance.3
