Papers of William Buck (1933- ), professor of veterinary biosciences (1978-1996) and director of the National Animal Poison Control Center (1978-96), including case files, correspondence, reports, papers, and proposals, relating to food animal residue, mycotoxins, national pesticide telecommunications network, pesticides, toxic plants, and veterinary toxicology. Subjects include American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians, American Board of Veterinary Toxicology, American College of Veterinary Toxicologists, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Ciba-Geigy Animal Health, Dow-Elanco Animal Health, Hartz Mountain, Purina Mills, and SmithKline Beecham. The papers are divided into two parts: William Buck Personal Papers, and National Animal Poison Control Center Records. The National Animal Poison Control Center at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine was formed by William Buck in 1978 as a clearinghouse for information on the management of poisoned animals. During Buck's tenure, the Center had several names including the Animal Toxicology Hotline (1978-79), the Animal Poison Control Center (1980-83), the National Animal Poison Control Center (1984-86), the Illinois Animal Poison Center (1987-89), and once again the National Animal Poison Control Center (1990- ).
