Scope and Contents of the Materials

Correspondence pertaining to the participation of Phineas L. Windsor, Director of the Illinois State Library School and Librarian of the University, in the activities of the American Library Association - as a member of committees concerned with college and university libraries and education for librarianship.  The major correspondents are the secretaries of the American Library Association: Chalmers Hadley (1909-11), George B. Utley (1911-April 1920) and Carl H. Milam (April 1920-1948).  A significant amount of correspondence with William S. Merrill of the Newberry Library is included.  The series contains reports, budgets, pamphlets, conference programs and questionnaires.
