Appearing as the Student Counseling Bureau in May 1949, this unit assisted students with educational, vocational, and personal problems.1 By 1956 its name appeared as the Student Counseling Service.2 In 1970 the Board of Trustees changed the name of the Student Counseling Service to the Psychological and Counseling Center, to reflect more clearly the nature of services available there.3 By 1989 it was listed as the Counseling Center, and with vocational, academic, personal, and interpersonal problems; its services included workshops, classes, individual, couple, and group counseling, as well as consultative services to University staff and departments.4
