Weekly progress and summary reports submitted by secondary school teachers in Barrington, Blue Island, Elmhurst, Gurnee, Pekin, St. Charles and Urbana, Illinois; Elkhart, Indiana; Cambridge and Newton, Massachusetts; St. Louis, Missouri; Astoria and Portland, Oregon and communities in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Washington and West Virginia to the University of Illinois Committee on School Mathematics and correspondence with participating and pilot schools concerning conferences, teaching methods, course materials, demonstration classes, observation notes, teachers' comments, coordinators' visits and speaking engagements and applications for admission to the program.
In December 1951, the Colleges of Education, Engineering and Liberal Arts and Sciences established the University of Illinois Committee on School Mathematics (UICSM) to investigate a new pedagogy for high school mathematics.1 Since then, UICSM has developed instructional materials for use in grades 7-12, for experimental use throughout the country.2
In 1971, the Mathematics Curriculum Development Project (UICSM) was first listed.3
