Description: Papers of Ella C. Leppert (1908- ), chairman, Social Science Program, University High School, and professor, College of Education (1954-76), including personal and professional correspondence, coursework, notes, reports, publication-related materials (including galleys, drafts, and permissions), curriculum materials (including teaching notes, handouts, exams, and student reading materials), student work, audio tapes (cassette and reel-to-reel), and filmstrips, relating to her professional education and training at Columbia University (Ed.D., 1951), teaching in the Social Studies Program at University High School, her directorship of the Social Studies Curriculum Study Center and its Sequential Social Studies Courses for Secondary Schools curriculum development project (ca. 1964-70), and publication projects, including Global Insights: Peoples & Cultures (Merrill, 1980). Curriculum areas covered include economics (including the teaching of comparative economic systems), U.S. history, classical civilizations, western European history, and area studies (especially India, sub-Saharan Africa, and the Soviet Union). Audio tapes record curriculum development workshops as well as classroom sessions, including some student presentations.
