Consists of four historic trumpet/cornet mouth pieces, documenting a portion of former professor of trumpet Michael Ewald's brass instrument collection.
Michael Edward Ewald (1948-2008) was born in North Tonawanda, New York on May 21, 1948. He earned his bachelors and masters degrees in trumpet performance from California State University at Northridge and his DMA in trumpet performance from the University of Southern California where he studied with John Clyman and Jimmy Stamp. From 1990 until his death in 2008, he served as a professor of trumpet at the University of Illinois. He also played principal trumpet with Sinfonia da Camera and the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra. In addition to performing in the community, Dr. Ewald also perfomed regularly with the Chicago Chamber Brass, the Chicago Brass Quintet, the Pasadena Symphony Orchestra, the Burbank Symphony Orchestra, and the Pasadena Chamber Orchestra. In 1994, he brought the International Trumpet Guild conference to the University of Illinios. Dr. Ewald, better known as "Doc" to his students, died in Champaign, Illinois on September 15, 2008.
