Robert "Bob" Frederic Delzell (1918-1995) was a librarian and author. Born in Independence Kansasa, he attended Drury College (Springfield, MO) and Washinton University (St. Louis). Prior to WWII, he briefly studied at Northwestern University and resided in Chicago. Delzell received his M.S. in Library Science from the University of Illinois in 1951. Following this, he served as the chief of the Acquisitions Department and assistant to the director of the U.S. Air Force, Air University Library at Maxwell Air Force Base (AL) before returning to the University of Illinois where he became a Library Administrative Assistant.
From 1967 until his retirement in 1978, he served as director of personnel for the University Library at the University of Illinois. In 1969 he served as the national presiden of Beta Phi Mu. From 1971-1973 he was the chairman of the ALA Awards Committee. After retiring, he served as the editor of Ideals and Standards: The History of the University of Illinois Graduate School of Library and Information Science, 1893-1993 (Urbana: University of Illinois Press, 1992)
