Description: Senate Special Committee on Inquiry into Educational Organization and Processes File, including questionnaires returned by faculty containing information on credit hours of courses, method of teaching, laboratory requirement, specific material covered, courses open to graduates & undergraduates, numbers of each grade given, grading "on curve" & causes of student failure. Questionnaire returned by the faculty contains information on individual research, hours spent on research, books & articles published, outside professional activities & class work (hours per week in 1925-26). A questionnaire returned by students concerns grade received, final examination questions, permanent value of subject matter, special guidance needed & length of assignments. The series includes statistics on faculty distribution by degrees, size of classes (1911, 1915, 1920, 1925), number of hours students spent in study, number of hours staff spent on class work & committee members' correspondence.
The file contains the Committee's 1080-page post bound typewritten final report includes recommendations concerning teaching loads, grades, absences, equipment, examinations, course listings & record keeping; analytical studies of courses; summaries of evidence on specific courses from records & responses of seniors; replies of department heads to questions concerning selection, utilization & promotion of staff, programs & facilities & the Committee's forms. The Committee's educational survey sought to determine the efficiency of the University's "whole teaching scheme." A second 881-page "final report" contains carbons & originals, copies of letters & reports.
