Grants-in-aid Program | University of Illinois Archives
Name: Grants-in-aid Program
Historical Note:
The legal authority for the Grants-in-Aid program carried out by the University of Illinois Foundation rests in Article 1, Section 4b of the Foundation's first Board of Directors and revised in November, 1935. Section 4b empowers the Foundation to receive, hold, and administer gifts with the primary object of serving purposes other than those for which the state ordinarily makes sufficient appropriations. Under the terms of this section, the Foundation administers grants-in-aid to University memorial fellowship funds, for the purchase of equipment and materials needed for research and for similar academic and scholarly purposes.1
