Historical Note: Steve Warmowski grew up on the northwest side of Chicago. He graduated St. Patrick's High School, and started at the University of Illinois-Urbana in August of 1987. He started working for the Daily Illini in its final year in the basement of Illini Hall. He later was a photographer and photo editor when the DI was located at Green and First streets. Warmowski graduated spring 1992 (after taking a semester off for internships at newspapers in Saginaw and Muskegon, Michigan). After graduation Warmowski worked at the LaSalle-Peru News-Tribune, Freeport Journal-Standard, Decatur Herald & Review, Jacksonville Journal-Courier.
