Abbott Power Plant photographs include 8 x10 and medium format prints and negatives showing Abbott Power plant facilities, the construction of steam distribution systems, and equipment, including boilers, generators, compressors, turbines, exhaust hoods, cooling towers, condensers, and freight trains delivering coal. Also includes a photo album concerning the coal conversion project, 1986-89.
With the September 20, 1967 reorganization of the Physical Plant Department by the Board of Trustees, the Plant and Services Department became responsible for the operation and maintenance of Physical Plant Services, alterations to existing buildings, for security of property and for operation and maintenance of Auxiliary Services, including housing, food service and Illini Union facilities.1 In 1972, the title of Plant and Services was changed to Operation and Maintenance Division.2
