Collie, a Venezuelan-born artist, came to the U.S. in 1959 to study at Boston University, where he received his degree in 1964. Time magazine recognized Collie in the article, Sculture: Merlin with Magnets (Friday, June 26, 1964). He also recieved a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1966 and a master's degree in landscape archecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design.
