Orville Otho Mowery (1901-1999) received his Bachelor of Science in agricultural, consumer, and environmental science from the University of Illinois in 1926. Mowery then taught vocational agriculture until 1935, before becoming a country farm advisor in the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service until 1966. In 1967, Orville received a two-year assignment as Agricultural Extension Advisor at Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University.

Orville Mowery was born on October 10, 1901, and married Lorraine Thornton in 1928. Orville Mowery’s honors include the Distinguished Service Award from the USDA National Association of Country Agricultural Agents while he was president of the Illinois Association of Farm Advisors (1953), and the Award of Merit from the Agriculture Alumni Association (1972).

Orville and Lorraine Mowrey established the Orville O. Mowery Scholarship Fund for students in the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences.
