Questionnaires returned by graduates and former students at the University of Illinois serving in the Armed Forces on August 1, 1944. The questionnaire was included with a printed letter from President Arthur C. Willard and information on the proposed G.I. Bill of Rights. It requested the serviceman's response to questions on whether he intended to return after the war, if he recommended an accelerated study plan, what courses of study he would follow, if he would require family living quarters and how the University might improve its services.
The questionnaires show the serviceman's name, rank, college, class and hours earned.
Personal comments were invited.
Answers included suggestions for improvements in colleges, housing, counselling, curriculum, instruction, loan policies, ROTC, personnel handling, school spirit, student employment, transportation and policy toward veterans. Many praised the University and its methods.
The series also includes typed extracts of the servicemen's comments, arranged alphabetically by subject.
NOTE: Box #1 includes a seven page summary report titled "Summary of Replies to Questionaries sent to Illini in Service" which was written by the Provost Office dated December 28, 1944.
