Papers of Harry Morgan Tiebout (1921-83) professor of philosophy (1951-83) contain correspondence, reprints, speeches, course notes, lecture notes, research notes, student papers, photographs, newsletters, news clippings, religious, political and civil rights literature, handbills, affidavits and minutes concerning: courses taken at Wesleyan University (1941-45) and Columbia (1946-51), and philosophy and religion courses taught at the University of Illinois (1951-80); research on Paul Tillich, Jean-Paul Sartre, Alfred North Whitehead, psychotherapy and religion, Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, and Islam; participation in Student-Community Interracial Committee (1945-51), Student-Community Human Relations Council (1951-55), National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (Champaign-Urbana branch, 1955-59 and University chapter, 1955-56 and 1958-62) and other civil rights organizations regarding discrimination in advertising, barbershops, employment, fraternities and sororities, housing, Illini Union, McKinley Hospital, recreational facilities, student organizations, restaurants and theaters; and participation in the Champaign County and Urbana Democratic Party regarding "reform" efforts (1960-70) to replace chairs Leo Pfeffer and John McHale, Tiebout's election to County Chair (1970), city, county, state and national campaigns and elections, fund-raising, "reform" and "regular" party newsletters (1966-74, 1979-82), and letters to the editor of the Urbana Courier (1962-72).
