Papers of Bernard Karsh, Professor of Sociology (1954-89), including correspondence and other materials concerning a proposed joint project on Japanese labor practices, to be conducted by the University of Illinois Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations and the Institute of Management and Labor Studies of the Keio University (Tokyo) (1961-64); correspondence, programs, biographical sketches, notes and evaluation reports pertaining to visits to the United States by Japanese trade union officials (1961-63); materials concerning Karsh's Fulbright fellowship in Japan (1959-61); conference and research proposals (ca. 1965); and correspondence (1971-72) on the book Workers and Employers in Japan (Princeton University Press, 1974), which Karsh co-edited. The papers include correspondence, questionnaires, coding instructions, translations, and other materials pertaining to the Technology and Culture Project (1970-75), which Karsh directed and in which Frederick Fliegel (Sociology ), William Form (Sociology), Allan Peshkin (Comparative Education), and Andrew Sofranko (Agricultural Economics and Sociology) participate; materials concerning Karsh's trip through Asia and South Asia (summer 1970); Maxwell Air Force Base lectures (1983-87), and reprints of articles and book reviews (1950-68) including reviews of Karsh's book Diary of a Strike (University of Illinois Press, 1958).
