Historical Note: Irene Dorothy Pierson (AB LAS '25, MS ED '44) served as Assistant Dean of Women from 1932 to 1939 and social director for the Illini Union from 1940 until her retirement in 1962. The Irene Pierson Award was established in 1966 at the 25th anniversary reunion of the Illini Union Board to honor her service to the University.
