Name: Wilkey, Lucille V. (1893-1985)
Historical Note: Lucille Vivien Wilkey (1893-1985) was born in Covington, Indiana and raised in Urbana, Illinois. She briefly attended Purdue University, where she studied music, before transferring to the University of Illinois in 1917. She graduated with a degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences in 1919. As a student, she was a member of the Women's Glee Club and Alpha Chi Omega sorority. In 1919, she took a position as instructor of French and Spanish in the Romance Language Department in Ohio University. By 1922, she had taken a position at the Northern Arizona Normal School (later Arizona State University) in Flagstaff, Arizona. By 1924, Wilkey had moved to California, where she became the president of the Long Beach Musical Arts Club. She retired from teaching music and became a realtor in the 1960s, being named Woman of the year by the Jubilee Chapter of the American Business Women's Association in 1966. Wilkey died in Long Beach, California in 1985.
