Conferences and Institutes File including announcements, handbooks, notebooks, programs, and proceedings for extension courses and programs (1946-54), projects and studies files, daily news bulletins (1952-55) and new releases (1947-54), bibliographies (1948-65, 1972), histories (1946-49), Inter-university labor Education Committee material (1951-54), German trade unionist training program files (1952-54), ILIR publications and ILIR sponsored conferences (1947-1954, 1980) including Personnel Management, United Steelworkers of America and Labor Journal Editors Conferences. Additional files include correspondence, budgets, photographs, itineraries, handbooks, speaking schedules and planning committee meetings for the Japan Institute of Labor (JIL) and ILIR Labor and Industrial Relations Concerns Conference (1993) and the Council of Labor Affairs (China), College of Law (UIUC) and ILIR conference: Industrial Democracy Issues for the 21st Centrury (1995), and the Japan Foundation Center for a Global Partnership proposal and final report (1993-94). Course materials (rosters, syllabi, correspondence, evaluations, handbooks and coursebooks) related to Labor and Management Educational Programs (1947-1987) are also included. Industrial Relations Council on Graduate Opportunities for Advanced Level Study (GOALS) files include newsletters, correspondence, memos, agendas, funding and budget proposals to increase diversity in the human resource management field and recruit minority students to complete advanced degrees.

Established in 1945,¹ the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations is responsible for fostering and coordinating education, extension, and research activities in labor and industrial relations, including advisory research and information services.² In 1946, the name Institute for Labor Relations was changed to Institute for Labor and Industrial Relations.³ In 2008, the Institute was redesignated the School of Labor and Employment Relations.⁴ It offers graduate, professional and extension training for labor, management and civic groups.⁵ The Chicago Labor Education Program was established to help union leaders improve their leadership skills.6
