Historical Note: Philip Spencer Bayles (1946) is an organist, pianist, and conductor. Born on September 19, 1946 in New York City, Bayles grew up in Colorado, Kansas, and Texas. He graduated from Bellaire High School in Houston, TX in 1964. Bayles graduated with a degree in English and Philosophy from the University of Kansas in 1969. He then earned a masters of music in composition from the University of Oregon. In 1977, he founded the Eugene Opera company. This lead to his founding the Eugene Concert Choir. In 1999 he founded the Riverside Chamber Symphony in Eugene, Oregon. In 2001 he became the music director at United Lutheran Church of Eugene.
