Description: Televised Book Program Films, consisting of a series of experimental sound films, kinescopes and negatives prepared under the direction of C. Walter Stone with the support of the Illinois State Library to produce an interesting book review program for television use. The programs include panel discussions, guest experts, interviews, film clips and still photographs relating to books, authors, subjects and libraries. Program titles include "Book Talk" (1955-56), "Free Channels: The Library Story" (1954) and "Books in Balance" (1956).
"Free Channels" includes programs on Illinois newspaper collections with Icko Iben and square dancing with Allen Sapora.
"Books in Balance" featured a panel of Ruth Weinard, Don jackson, Alice Appell and D. A. Brown reviewing Bruce Catton's This Hallowed Ground (Robert Sutton), Sinclair Lewis' Main Street (George Scouffas), Robert P. Warren's Segregation (Herbert Lassiter), Margaret Wimbeck's The Year of Love (P. K. Bannerjee) and John F. Kennedy's Profiles in Courage (Thomas Page). Names in parentheses were guest critics.
