Students pose for the group beard growing contest at the hobo parade. The Hobo Parade was an annual event where people dressed up on costumes and attire resembling that of hobos. However, on campus, this expanded to different outfits and disguises meant to satirize elements of the Champaign Urbana community. Featured here are men, as part of the annual homecoming beard growing contest, posing with their fresh whiskers. While a lot of contexts for the jokes is lost, their attempts at satire are not lost. This image is a still from the Bernard Strauch collection of Hobo Parade Imagery.
