Scope and Contents of the Materials

Melbourne Kenneth Blanchard (1917-83) the youngest student ever to enter the University of Illinois in 1933 received his BS (1938) and Ph.D. (1942) in ceramic engineering from U of I.  His papers include his B.S. Thesis entitled "Vitrification Conduct of Illinois Clays," his MS thesis, "Properties of Refractories from Pacific Northwest Olivine," and his Ph.D. Thesis, "A Study of Enamel Film Strength as affected by the properties of the enamel before, during, and after drying" as well as drafts of the thesis.  The series also includes course materials from ceramic engineering, chemistry, and physics classes, certificates of membership in professional societies, 1942 commencement program, a copy of the Illini Ceramist (1940), a 1983 obituary, and a plaque from Keramos professional ceramic engineering fraternity.
