Records of the Gliessman Photographic Studio, which operated in Champaign from at least 1944 to ~2003. Processed material consists of over 14,000 8x10, 5x7, 4x5, and 2 1/4 photograph negatives, taken by the operators of the Studio from 1944 to 2001. Subjects include aerial views of Illinois locations, business photos (advertising, buildings, personnel, production lines, products), personal images (graduations, portraits, weddings), and TV commercial slides. Additionally, a significant portion of the material comes from the University of Illinois, and includes athletes and sporting events, buildings, personnel, and university life in general. Some negatives are stored with prints.
The Gliessman collection is a unique pictorial record of life and commerce in Champaign-Urbana from the 1950s to the 1990s.
