Scope and Contents of the Materials

Consists of Tim Barnes' doctoral research notes and materials on Elburn "Eddie" Alkire. Collection is organized into two series: Series 1: Personal papers and correspondence which includes Alkire's correspondence and Barnes' dissertation notes and proposal.  Series 2: Research files divided into four subseries: 1)  Trade magazine, journal and newspaper articles; lectures; radio program scripts; and photographs; 2) Ads and promotional materials for Alkire's publications company; 3) Sheet music for Hawaiian guitar; 4) Books.

Biographical Note

Timothy E. Barnes, a native of New Jersey, received his Bachelor's degree in music from Shenandoah University in 1985 and a Master of Music from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1989. He was a doctoral student in musicology at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana from 1990 until 2010. From 1998 until 2017, Barnes held several administrative positions at Illinois including Director of Illinois Strategic International Partnerships (ISIP). In 2016, under his direction, ISIP was awarded the Andrew Heiskell Award for Innovation in International Education for the Best International Partnerships by the Institute for International Education (IIE). In November, 2017, Barnes was appointed Executive Director of  International Partnerships and Research at the University of Kentucky.
