Mitchell S. Kazel (1959- ) was a member of the faculty in the Department of Journalism at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) from 1984-2011, serving as an assistant professor (2009) and associate professor (2011) of Journalism. During his time at UIUC, Kazel also served as the Director of Broadcast Journalism Resources and Facilities (2008-2011). Kazel retired from the Department of Journalism in 2011. Kazel specializes in broadcasting, journalism, and TV news production.

Mitchell S. Kazel (1959- ) was a member of the faculty in the Department of Journalism at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) from 1984-2011, serving as an assistant professor (2009) and associate professor (2011) of Journalism. During his time at UIUC, Kazel also served as the Director of Broadcast Journalism Resources and Facilities (2008-2011). Kazel retired from the Department of Journalism in 2011. Kazel specializes in broadcasting, journalism, and TV news production.
Mitchell S. Kazel (1959- ). He received his B.S. in Computer in 1981 and his M.S. in Journalism in 1982, both Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He has worked in radio and broadcasting for several decades, starting as a technician at the Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute in Chicago (1977-1979). Kazel was a visiting lecturer in the Department of Journalism at UIUC from 1983-1984. He then served as a teaching associate from 1984-2008 and was promoted to assistant professor in 2009. Kazel became an associate professor in 2011. After retiring from the Department of Journalism, Kazel worked as the Multicultural Internship Coordinator for the Illinois Broadcasters Association from 2013-2014. As of 2015 Kazel has been working as a standardized patient at the College of Medicine at UIUC.
During his time at UIUC, Kazel served on numerous committees, including: College Undergraduate Admissions Committee (1991-1992, 1996-1998, 2004-2007); Department Graduate Admissions Committee (2000-2001); Urbana-Champaign (faculty/student) Senate (2000-2002 College of Media Undergraduate Recruiting, Admissions & Retention Committee (2008-2011); and the Department of Journalism Student Honors Committee (2009-2011), amongst many others.
Kazel is the recipient of various grants and awards, including grants from the U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratories (1991, 1992, 1993, and 1995); Geo-Marine Inc. (1993); and the WSI Corporation (2001). He has been named University of Illinois List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by students numerous times from 1983-2010. He received the 2009 Department of Journalism Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching, and was named the Greek Week 2009 Outstanding Faculty Member.
Kazel retired from the Department of Journalism in 2011.
