Michael E. Schlesinger (1943-2018) was a professor of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) from 1989-2017. Professor Schlesinger was among early scientists working on climate change and global warming and is best known for his early research on the modeling, simulation, and analysis of climate and climate change resulting from increased concentrations of greenhouse gases and sulfate aerosols (1970s - early 1990s). Professor Schlesinger contributed to the 1990 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Scientific Assessment report. He also authored and co-authored numerous publications, including articles, and reports on climate models, greenhouse gases, and human-induced climate change.
The papers of Michael E. Schlesinger consist of course materials and research files (including correspondence) dating mostly from his early research into climate change (1970s-early 1990s) and thus from his time at Oregon State University. Also included are his publications.
The collection is organized into 3 series. Series 1: Course Materials, arranged chronologically, Series 2: Research Files, arranged alphabetically, Series 3: Publications, arranged chronologically.
