Mariangela Segre Case File includies legal documents such as greivances, complaints, depositions, affadivits, interogatories, policies, statements, memorada, correspondence and settlement agreements concerning a case filed by the United States Equal Opportunity Commission against the board of Trustees, concening Mariangela Segre, Professor of Pathobiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine. The case was precipitated by allegations of discrimination during the tenure review process, and a settlement in the case was reached after three years.
On December 24, 1963, the University Committee on Human Relations and Equal Opportunity was established as the first of many steps to achieve the goal of equal opportunity.1 Among campus programs to deal with discrimination is the Office of Affirmative Action for Equal Opportunity, which was established in the budget of the Chancellor's Office in 1971-1972.2 In 1972, the Campus Council on Equal Opportunity was formed to integrate and oversee all affirmative action programs, including the Equal Opportunity Office. Its director serves on the Council.3
