Description: James F. Evans, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Emeritus Professor of Agricultural Communications and Journalism (1968- ), is recognized as the driving force behind the development of the Agricultural Communications Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and for his research in agricultural communications including the distribution of agricultural knowledge to Illinois farm families, and on the adequacy of pesticide labeling.
The papers of James F. Evans (1932- ), Professor Emeritus of Agricultural Communications and Journalism (1968- ) contains his publications and significant materials on the history of agricultural communications, international student-faculty exchange programs in agricultural communications, and the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow national student organization, which Evans helped found. The papers also include documents on the Agricultural Communications program.
There were three accessions for Professor Evan's papers.
The first accession (2015) includes agricultural communications and business class materials from Iowa State University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, professional correspondence, awards and certificates, lectures and professional conference materials, and his involvement with farming advertisements while working for the Aubrey, Finlay, Marley, and Hodgson, Inc. Advertising Agency (1957-1960). Also included are his study of Prairie Farmer authors and interviews; research concerning the 1969 Farm Publication Study; Oscars in Agriculture award nominations; his Thomas Pawlett Scholar Sabbatical at the University of Sydney, Australia; his involvement in Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT) and its United Kingdom trip plans. Additional materials concern the International Program for Agricultural Communications Education (PACE), International Program for Agricultural Knowledge Systems (INTERPAKS), Haydn Williams Fellowship in Western Australia, correspondence related to Marking the Land: A Collection of Australian Bush Wisdom and Humor, and his publications about agricultural media and methods, agricultural communications education and research, and communications aspects of food, nutrition, rural development, and other dimensions of agriculture.
The second accession (2017) includes career summaries, professional awards. A copy of "Jim's Official Sing-Along Songbook", conference proceedings and presentations, and articles written by Evans.
The third accession (2022) includes materials related to the Agricultural Communications program at the University including some of Professor Evans' publications.

Series 2: Research and Professional Engagement, 1969-2015, is arranged according to Evans' original subheadings and chronologically within. The category of 'subject files' was added by the archives for folders under no original subheading;
Series 3: Publications, 1963-2015, arranged chronologically by date of publication, with journal articles, reports, and conference proceedings first, and books second. Materials from a range of years are listed under the first date.
