RAYMOND M. LEUTHOLD
Raymond M. Leuthold, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Professor Emeritus of Agricultural Economics, is a researcher in the fields of agribusiness and farm management including the modeling of agricultural markets and prices, commodity and livestock forecasting, hedging strategies, and the operation and behavior of future markets.
Raymond M. Leuthold received a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from Montana State University in 1962, Master of Science in Economics from the University of Wisconsin in 1966, and Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Wisconsin in 1968. He began his professional career as a U.S. Department of Agriculture Cooperative Agent at the University of Wisconsin (1966-1967) before coming to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) Department of Agricultural Economics in 1967.
While at UIUC, Leuthold served as Assistant Professor (1967-1972), Associate Professor, (1972-1980), Professor (1980-2000), and Thomas A. Hieronymous Distinguished Professor (1993-2000). He also was the Director of the Office for Futures and Options Research (1993-2000), the Director of Graduate Programs and Assistant Department Head for the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics (1996-1997), and Professor Emeritus and Director Emeritus (2000- ). Leuthold also was a Visiting Associate Professor at Sanford University's Food Research Institute (1974), a Fulbright Scholar at Institut de Gestion Internationale Agro-Alimentaire in France (1981), an Exchange Professor at the University of Abidgan (Abidjan, Ivory Coast, 1986), and as a Visiting Research Scholar at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (1990-1991).
Throughout his professional career, Leuthold has received many awards for his teaching and research including the American Agricultural Economics Association Distinguished Policy Award (1980), Fulbright Research Fellowship (1981), Burlington Northern Foundation Facility Achievement Award (1986), various UIUC College of Agriculture Outstanding Instructor Awards (1988-1992), and the UIUC College of Agriculture Paul A. Funk Award (1993), amongst others.
